In my career, I have had the honor of hearing thousands of stories from clients who have experienced some of life’s most challenging obstacles. Stories of pain and recovery, loss and redemption, trauma and triumph. These stories have enlightened me to this truth: the human spirit isn’t just capable of surviving adversity; it is capable of thriving thereafter. It is resilient. It is strong.
I am passionate about helping people hone that strength. I believe that sometimes a new perspective can make the biggest difference in how we approach the problems in our lives. Being able to find meaning in the hard times allows us to embrace challenge with our heads up and our hearts strong.
The Japanese art form kintsugi involves repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with gold lacquer. As a philosophy, kintsugi honors breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to hide. I believe the same to be true for treating our mental health. Therapy isn’t about erasing the “bad” parts of ourselves. Rather, it is about accepting the existence of difficulties in our lives while highlighting the ability to heal and move forward—a wiser version of you. When we have the ability to heal ourselves, we are made stronger, more unique, and more beautiful each time we mend.
